UH President tells OHA they must include Peabody at Gov. Candidate forumUH President says Gov. Candidate Peabody and others must be included by OHA Good news now: I have been fighting to be included in the OHA Meet Gov.Candidates forum to be held at UH Manoa Sept. 9 after I learned about it and that I again was excluded because i am not in their opinion a major candiate. I brought this to attention of UH President who I am happy and greatful to report has taken action to ensure fair opportunity for all candiates per his email message to me via his VP External Affairs Paul Costello, as follows: "To George Peabody: Thank you for your recent email to President Dobelle regarding the OHA 2002 Gubernatorial Forum. Walter Kirmitsu, the University's General Counsel, has been in touch with OHA and informed OHA that University policy does not allow organizations renting space at the University to exclude any political candidates from a candidate forum. OHA will be in touch with you regarding your participation in the forum. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

MORE to editors: Who, by the way, pays for those staged Gov. Candidate boring "debates"? Do those candidates who are allowed to participate pay for that air time, or is media making un reported donations to those campaigns? Please reply to this question ASAP. Media and Forums Exclusions are a Disservice to Voters, and corrupt the democratic process! I think the "meet the candidates" forums that exclude certain candidates such as libertarian candidate for governor George Peabody, and the media polls asking questions crafted to promote only "major" Parties and Candidates, e.g. Which of the two major Parties do you think will effect real change in Hawaii government/politics? instead of asking Which Party platform leads you to believe that Party will effect real change.....? , are doing a disservice to Voters by manipulating opinions and discouraging Voters from critical thinking. I believe the forum organizers and the media should be making every effort to inform the Voters about all the candidate choices so Voters can make informed choices when they exercise their right to vote in the Primary and General Elections. aloha,
